The Captains Flat RSL & Citizens Bowling Club
Thirty Captains Flat bowlers launched the season on 1st April fully testing the refurbished green. Wade Turner, Andy Turner and Mal Daisley from Queanbeyan Bowling Club Turf Management are continuing with the fertilisation program and mower and roller maintenance. Andy Turner is often at the bowling green during the week spreading the fertilizer, his grandfather was Cyril Turner who worked at Anembo for a long time. Approval for the front verandah of the RSL & Citizen's Bowling Club was received from Palerang Council on the 5th of April and work began on Saturday 7th April at 9:30 pm and should be completed within a month. Chris Macdonald and Ed Cossart have volunteered their time to build the verandah. Money for materials was raised by the Captain's Crew and other members of the Club. Social games will now be held on Sundays beginning at 11:00 am. Players can use the rinks at other times by hiring a jack, mat and bowls for $2.00 through the bar. The McGovern Cup - the Captains Flat Bowling Club Singles Championship will be held on Sunday 27th May 2007 at 11:00 am. The Club Singles Championship is for BowlsACT registered members of the Captains Flat RSL & Citizens Bowling Club. Visitors are welcome at this small but friendly club, where you can enjoy a social game of bowls in an historic setting. The green and clubhouse was built by volunteer labour from 1947, with materials supplied by the Lake George mining company. The club is affiliated with ACT Bowls and members regularly visit other clubs in the region. The club hosts birthday parties, learn to bowl days and even visits by motorcycle clubs. Social games are held on Saturdays at 1pm. Clubhouse: (02) 6236 6284 Pizza is now available at the club. Flat Pizza A takeaway and eat-in pizza restaurant now operates from the Captains Flat RSL and Citizens Bowling Club. It takes orders between 5pm and 8pm Thursday and Friday, and 1pm to 8pm Saturday and Sunday. Catering for large parties is also possible - phone for details.
